Biograd na Moru is a picturesque town in North Dalmatia, halfway between Zadar and Šibenik, which in the Middle Ages was the coronation seat of the Croatian kings and one of the earliest Croatian royal capitals. Today it is a lively coastal town with a pleasant seafront promenade, cafés and one of the largest marinas on the Adriatic, from where excursion boats depart for the Kornati Islands. Biograd is lined with long sandy and pebble beaches surrounded by pine forests, ideal for families with children. The town is an excellent base for trips to the Kornati and Krka national parks as well as the nearby Lake Vrana, a protected bird reserve inland. For younger visitors there is also an aquarium and an aquapark, so boredom is never an issue here. From the harbour, a ferry easily takes you to the islands of Pašman and Ugljan.
